Showing Your Home

Someone is coming to look at your home. Make sure it is in show condition with a few last minute touches.

  • Turn on lights

  • Make sure curtains and blinds are opened.

  • Wipe off kitchen counters and clean out sink.

  • Do you have mood music? You could turn on a tape or disc of some classical music.

  • Pick up the newspaper and mail and stack it neatly.

  • Get all pets out of the house. Not everyone is a pet lover.

  • Put toilet lids down.

  • Remove any clutter from the floor.

  • Make the beds.

Leave the house -- even if you sit in your parked car across the street. When people are looking with the owners in the house-they feel like they are imposing and won't stay long. They don't feel comfortable to look at everything knowing you might overhear them or feel they are being too nosy. If you must be home (because a baby is sleeping etc) tell the agent you will stay in one room and take their time looking. DO NOT FOLLOW the agent or show the house yourself. Avoid all conversations with agent and their client. This may not make sense but you really need to stay away from those looking. If it is a very inconvenient time see if the agent can schedule a different time rather than make them feel as if they have to hurry through the house. If you work all day, leave your house "show ready" in the morning.
